Anti-Legionella/Anti-scald Working Group - HM Government/NHS Estates
Member of the Anti-Legionella and Anti-scald working group convened by HM Government and NHS Estates, contributing technical and industry expertise to the development of regulatory guidance and best practice frameworks.
Appointed as an industry representative to the HM Government and NHS Estates Anti-Legionella and Anti-Scald Working Group, contributing technical expertise to the development of national guidance, industry standards and best practice for the safe delivery of domestic hot water systems.
Working alongside NHS Estates, government representatives (including Mary Creagh MP) and leading manufacturers, I helped develop the technical framework that ultimately formed TMV3 and the associated amendments to the Building Regulations (Part G) governing the prevention of scalding and the control of Legionella risk in healthcare and public buildings.
The resulting regulations introduced stricter requirements for thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs), including limiting bath outlet temperatures to 48°C while maintaining system temperatures sufficient to minimise the risk of Legionella growth - significantly improving public health and patient safety.
Approved Document G - UK Sanitation and Water Efficiency Standard
Approved Document G is the UK Building Regulations standard covering sanitation, hot water safety and water efficiency. It ensures adequate sanitary facilities, safe hot water temperatures and water conservation in all building types across England.
As part of this work, I designed and developed an innovative anti-Legionella tap outlet incorporating silver-ion biocidal technology, providing an additional level of protection against bacterial contamination within water outlets.
To complement my technical responsibilities, I qualified in The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and undertook independent COSHH risk assessments, further strengthening my expertise in health, safety and regulatory compliance.
